ΑΝ ΠΕΘΑΝΗΣ... / IF YOU DIE...

Πρίν από μερικά χρόνια μαζί με φίλους είχαμε επισκευθεί το Άγιον Όρος, ήταν η πρώτη μου επίσκεψη. Κατά την επίσκεψή μας στήν Ιερά Μονή Κουτουλουμουσίου

πήρε το μάτι μου μία ταμπελίτσα πού έγραφε:

( ΑΝ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ΠΡΙΝ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ, ΔΕΝ ΘΑ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ΟΤΑΝ  ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ),

με πήρε περίπου 20 χρόνια να καταλάβω το νόημα της επιγραφής.Τελικά με την βοήθεια καί την Χάρη τού μεγάλου μας Θεού κατάλαβα ότι μέσα σ’αυτές τις απλές λεξούλες κρύβετε όλη η ουσία της ζωής.

Κατάλαβα ότι Ο Δρόμος (Εγώ ειμί η οδός Ιωαν. Ιδ 6) πρός τη σωτηρία είναι ένας καί μόνον ένας, δεν υπάρχει άλλος τρόπος καί γιά να μπείς στην Οδό υπάρχουν προ-υποθέσεις, ΠΡΕΠΕΙ να ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ από τά τού κόσμου πράγματα.

Ο φθαρτός κόσμος αυτός που ζούμε, η ζωή αυτή εδώ πού ζούμε αποτελείτε από κοσμικά πράγματα τα οποία δεν περιέχουν Θεό (είναι εκ τού κόσμου τούτου).

Γιά έναν κοσμικό τύπο άνθρωπο, Ο Θεός είναι μακρυά και δεν συμπεριλαμβάνεται στα σχέδιά του, κοιμάται, ξυπνάει, τρώει, δουλεύει, διασκεδάζει, παντρεύεται, χωρίς Θεό. Ο Θεός λείπει, τον Θεό τον καλεί μόνον όταν τον χρειάζεται, Ο Θεός λοιπόν είναι μακρυά για τον κόσμο τούτο. Ο κόσμος δεν μπορεί όμως να κατανοήσει πόσο κοντά

πράγματι Ο Μεγαλοδύναμος είναι όταν έμείς τον καλέσουμαι και γίνουμαι δέκτες. «Ο πανταχού παρόν καί τα πάντα πληρών». Οί άνθρωποι στον κόσμο τούτο είναι δύσκολο να καταλάβουμαι πόσο δυστυχισμένοι είμαστε, χωρίς χαρά, μόνοι χωρίς Θεό, κενοί χωρίς περιεχόμενο, ο εσωτερικός μας κόσμος δεν έχει τίποτα παρά άγχος, έγνοιες, αγωνία καί στεναχώρια, ένα μαύρο κενό τό όποίο συνήθως το γεμίζουμαι μέ διάφορα υλικά πράγματα καί μέ άσκοπα ταξίδια, διακοπές κ.α. Όμως αυτά τα γεμίσματα δέν διαρκούν γιά πολύ καί αυτό γίνετε συνέχεια, γεμίζουμαι το κενό αλλά αδιάζει πάλυ καί η ..ζωή συνεχίζεται. Είναι σαν να βάζης ενέσεις.

Ο χριστιανός λοιπόν πρέπει να πεθάνη από αυτόν το κόσμο γιά να μπορέση να κάνει την προσπάθειά του να εισέλθει εις την Οδόν καί νά πορευθή πρός την κάθαρση, τόν φωτισμό καί τελικά τήν Θέωση πού είναι ο στόχος τού κάθε χριστιανού.

My first visit to Mount Athos was several years ago, with a group of friends.  During our visit to the Holy Monastery of Koutouloumousiou, I noticed a little board with the following inscription in Greek, " ΑΝ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ΠΡΙΝ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ, ΔΕΝ ΘΑ ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ΟΤΑΝ  ΠΕΘΑΝΕΙΣ ),

", which translates to "If you die before you die, you will not die when you die".

It took about 20 years for me to understand the essential meaning of this inscription.  With the help and Grace of our Almighty God, I realized that within these simple words; lay hidden the true essence of life.

I realized that the Road (John 14.6 I am the way) to salvation is one and only one, there is no other way, and that there are certain conditions to ensure that you are on the road, you HAVE to DIE from worldly concerns.

This world we live in, this secular way of life we live, is full of worldly concerns which does not come from our God,

A person, who is devoted to the temporal world, perceives God as a distant notion and He is left out of his worldly plans and schedule, he sleeps, eats, works, entertains and marries without God.  God is missing and he will only call on God when he needs Him. As a result God is far from this secular world.

The world, however, fails to realize how close to us our Almighty God is, when we become open and receptive to him. , <<Ο πανταχού παρόν καί τα πάντα πληρών>>. ("Present everywhere, filling all things")

It is very difficult for people to comprehend how miserable they are without happiness, alone without God, void, their inner being is empty and is only filled with anxiety, worldly concerns, stress and unhappiness, a black hole which they fill up with various worldly material things and meaningless travels, holidays, etc. but these "fillings" are temporary and hence the need for people to 'refill' their void and thus this cycle continues as 'life'. This 'injection' of worldly material things, travel, holidays may be compared to injections.

Therefore, the Christian must die from this world in order to be able to make the effort to walk on the 'path' and to move towards purification, illumination and finally to Theosis, which is ultimately the goal of every Christian.

 Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy on us.
